Fareena retired on February 28, 2024, as a Federal Secretary after serving for 37 years and contributing at various roles.

Fareena was the Federal Secretary for the National Heritage and Culture Division and the Board of Investment, in addition to various other senior roles, including the Federal Board of Revenue, the Ministry of Commerce, PEMRA and the Prime Minister’s Office.

During her 5 years at the BoI, Fareena spearheaded initiatives for fostering a favorable business environment. Her team’s efforts led to Pakistan's remarkable jump of 39 positions in the "Ease of Doing Business" ranking. In 2020, Fareena was acknowledged by the World Bank as one of the 5 women in the world who helped businesses grow.

Fareena's career reflects a commitment to public service, with the intention of reforming the administrative and regulatory regime in. Her leadership aimed at improving Pakistan's economic landscape.
